ADVA Optical Networking Selects Xelerated’s Network Processor for its Carrier Class Portfolio

High function, low cost NPU extends ADVA Optical Networking's Carrier Ethernet services into access and aggregation networks

Stockholm, Sweden, April 28, 2009 - Xelerated, the global leader in field-proven Carrier Ethernet ASSP-based chipsets, today announced that ADVA Optical Networking has deployed its X11 network processor unit (NPU) in the ADVA FSP 3000 Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) system. Based on Xelerated's wirespeed dataflow architecture, the X11 is a high function, low cost processor which now enables ADVA Optical Networking to extend its Carrier Ethernet services into fiber access and aggregation networks - providing a unified Ethernet-based solution for carriers and enterprises.

Xelerated's X11 NPU is ideal for carriers requiring a flexible, cost-effective system which will transport and protect high-speed data, storage, voice and video applications. ADVA Optical Networking chose Xelerated's X11 NPU because of its ability to combine the low cost and power efficiency of an ASIC with the advantages of an NPU, reducing cost and time-to-market. The X11's architecture guarantees deterministic, low latency packet behavior, regardless of packet size, traffic pattern or number of instructions used per packet. This enables ADVA Optical Networking to better provide its customers with higher performance and advanced flexibility to support new, revenue-generating services.

"Our carrier customers are looking for opportunities to extend their Carrier Ethernet and triple play services into access and aggregation networks. The X11 provides us with the ability to do so, easily and cost-effectively without sacrificing performance," said Dr. Christoph Glingener, chief technology officer of ADVA Optical Networking. "The X11 is also adaptable, so we don't have to worry about buying new equipment to keep up with today's ever-changing standards."

"ADVA Optical Networking's emphasis on unified Ethernet-based access and aggregation match Xelerated's focus nicely," said Thomas Eklund, vice president of marketing and business development for Xelerated. "Having been selected by one of the leaders in Carrier Ethernet deployment further demonstrates our position in the market, and we look forward to our continued relationship with them."
