BURLINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS, April 5, 2004 - Xelerated, developer of the first single-chip, 40 Gbps network processor, today announced that Michael Barar has joined the company as Vice President of Sales. Mr Barar brings over 15 years of experience in high-technology sales, marketing and business development to Xelerated and will be responsible for running and accelerating global expansion of Xelerated's sales organization. Mr Barar will be based in Xelerated's office in Santa Clara, California.
"I am very pleased to have Michael join our company. He has many years of experience in sales, marketing and development of high-technology products and is highly regarded in the industry for his previous achievements of securing design wins with leading OEMs, penetrating new market segments and building successful sales organizations," said Johan Börje, CEO. "His extensive customer network and deep understanding of system vendors' requirements will be a great asset in his mission to drive the further growth of Xelerated's revenue."
Mr Barar has more than 15 years of experience from leading operational roles in the semiconductor industry. He was most recently Vice President of Sales and Marketing at SandCraft, Inc., a developer of high-performance MIPS microprocessors which was acquired by Raza Microelectronics 2003. At SandCraft he helped the company secure critical design wins with Tier-one customers, built and managed the sales organization and led the transition of the company's business model. Prior to joining SandCraft Mr Barar had several other key management positions at Nexus/IBM, LSI Logic, and Advanced Micro Devices.
"I am very impressed by Xelerated's product portfolio, the unique data flow architecture and the team behind it. With its strong technology, key customer wins and the ability to execute under tough market conditions Xelerated has shown that it is a leading vendor in the Network Processor space," says Michael Barar.
Mr Barar holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, San Jose, CA and a Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering degree specializing in Computer Architecture from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, NC.
Xelerated's first generation of network processors, the XeleratorTM X10q family, is based on an innovative data-flow architecture. The efficiency of the data-flow architecture sets a new standard for cost/performance, delivering 40 Gbps of wire speed throughput whilst dissipating less than 10 Watts and costing only $490. This enables the X10q to cost-effectively support value-added features for high-density Gigabit Ethernet applications in both the Enterprise and Transport markets. The programmability of the X10q allows future-proof support of a wide range of emerging protocols, including IPv6/MPLS/VPLS, and their associated transition/translation mechanisms. In February this year the X10q received the prestigious Microprocessor Report Analysts' choice award for best extreme processor.
