MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and STOCKHOLM, Sweden - February 27, 2001, NetLogic Microsystems, the network search engine technology leader, and Xelerated Packet Devices, a Stockholm-based supplier of high-performance network processors, today announced plans to seamlessly interface NetLogic Microsystems' family of network search engines with Xelerated Packet Devices' XeleratorTM family of network processors in order to speed the release of 40 Gbps off-the-shelf data plane solutions. The initiative is part of Xelerated's First to FortyTM program that aims at enabling the world's first complete OC-768 wire-speed solution.
"In order to deliver OC-768 wire-speed performance, our network processors needed to be seamlessly linked to the search engines with the fastest search speed and with the largest database capability," said Johan Hellqvist, CEO of Xelerated Packet Devices. "Having a best-in-class network search engine supplier like NetLogic in our First to FortyTM program is critical to our success."
The patent-pending XeleratorTM network processors provide a traffic manager, packet processor and policy processor in a single-chip solution. The XeleratorTM is the first in the industry to deliver the flexibility of a network processor while providing the performance previously only feasible with a fixed-function ASIC.
"This partnership is an essential step in creating the first commercially available OC-768 data plane solution," said TJ Mueller, vice president of marketing at NetLogic. "By combining the XeleratorTM with our search engines, we are able to provide a significant improvement in throughput necessary for next-generation Internet functionalities. This partnership has the added benefit of allowing for the time-to-market advantages inherent in standard solutions."
NetLogic's family of data plane solutions includes a broad range of industry leading network search engines and high-performance network classification and forwarding processors. These devices perform up to 100 million searches per second on databases consisting of up to one million entries. This makes them ideal for packet classification, CIDR forwarding, MPLS searches, ATM searches and QoS enforcement for differentiated services in core and edge networking applications.
About Xelerated Packet Devices
Xelerated Packet Devices AB ("Xelerated"), founded in August 2000, designs, develops and markets a new generation of network processors. Building on the latest advances in technology, Xelerated's single-chip solution represents a major leap forward in network processor design. The company focuses on high-speed interfaces, ranging from 1 Gbps to 160 Gbps, and has based the development of its Xelerator family of network processors on a novel patent-pending architecture. The XeleratorTM is the first processor, which has the unprecedented combination of fixed-function ASIC performance and the programmability of a multi-purpose processor, yet it, retains a scaleable architecture.
